Skyhawks Trip Up Mavericks

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – No. 21 Fort Lewis spoiled Senior Day for the Colorado Mesa women's soccer team defeating the Mavericks 1-0 Friday (Nov. 1).

Ashley Kniffen scored the lone goal for the Skyhawks in the 35th minute. Sam Weiss's shot hit the post and rebounded across the face of the goal to Kniffen who scored her first goal of the season.

The best scoring opportunity for the Mavericks came in the 27th minute with a series of shots on goal from six yards out.


Fort Lewis improves to 14-3-0 overall and 10-3-0 in the league. Mesa falls to 6-11 and 5-8-0 in league play.
FLC outshot CMU 14-7.

The game was the final home game for five seniors, Lauren Brouse, Sam Burneo, Tayler Franklin, Veronica Rodriguez and Leilani Wiernicki. The group scored 17 goals and 26 assists in 238 career games.

The Mavericks close out the regular season at Adams State Sunday (Nov. 3).
