The Colorado Mesa University Wrestling team traveled to Gunnison over the weekend to participate in the 23rd Annual Tracy Borah Duals at Western State. The Mavericks came away with a 3-0 record and improved to 10-1 in dual meets this season.
#14 Colorado Mesa 32, SW Minnesota 9 (
Results)
CMU took on the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota in their first dual of the day. The Mavericks went on to win eight of the ten matches en route to a 32-9 win. In the win, CMU picked up three bonus point wins including two pins.
Justin Schumacher continued his solid season picking up a pin over Codie Lane at 149 pounds. Schumacher is 18-5 on the season and leads the Mavericks with nine pins on the year.
Paco Retana finished the dual off with a 21-9 defeat of Mustang Todd Klemz 21-9 in the heavyweight match.
#14 Colorado Mesa 34, Western Wyoming 15 (

For the second time this season, Colorado Mesa defeated Western Wyoming in their second dual of the day. The Mavericks won a little more handidly this time around, picking up a 34-15 win. Earlier in the season, the Mavericks narrowly defeated the Mustangs 22-15 at home.

Jon Gappmaier picked up major decision victories. All-American 
Nick Petersen won his match over Carlos Saabedra at 184 pounds by technical fall.
#14 Colorado Mesa 29, Air Force 18 (

In their final dual of the day, Colorado Mesa took on Division I Air Force. The Mavericks defeated the Falcons 29-18, picking up two major decision victories and a pin in the dual.
Sophomore 
Drew Schumann finished off his second consecutive 3-0 weekend with a 10-2 major decision win over Andy Jones. Jones defeated Schumann earlier in the season by pin at the Colorado Open.
Jon Gappmaier also finished his weekend 3-0 defeating the Falcons' Adam Jackson by fall. Gappmaier is now 6-0 on the season and currently ranked #3 at 157 pounds.
The Mavericks will be on the road this week with an RMAC dual at Chadron State on Thursday at 7:00pm from Armstrong Gymnasium in Chadron, Neb. On Saturday, CMU will take part in the UNK Loper Duals in Kearney, Neb. The schedule is yet to be determined but expect the Mavericks to square off with San Francisco State, top ranked Nebraska-Kearney, and Fort Hays State.
