Colorado Mesa (14-0, 10-0 RMAC) held off upset-minded UC-Colorado Springs (9-4, 6-3 RMAC), 56-55 Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
CMU saw a 10-point lead (54-44) with 4:24 remaining in regulation quickly evaporate to a three point advantage as the Mountain Lions went on an 9-2 run to close the CMU lead to three points (56-53). A rebound and put-back by UCCS' Abby Kirchoff with 58-seconds left pulled the Mountain Lions to within one point (56-55). After two missed free throws by CMU the Mountain Lions missed a three-pointer but scrambled for the rebound with 17-second remaining. A steal by Sharaya Selsor (00:09) and UCCS foul resulted in two more missed free throws by CMU. The Mountain Lions last second shot was blocked by Bruna Deichmann as time expired.
Sharaya Selsor finished with a game high 15 points. Kelsey Sigl had 13 points and seven rebounds. Katrina Selsor recorded 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Bruna Deichmann posted her second consecutive double-double with 10 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
CMU was outscored in the second half 30-24 and shot 26.4 percent (14-53) from the floor in the contest. The Mavericks struggled from the foul line hitting 23 of 36.
UCCS was led by Lauren Wolfinger's 15 points off the bench. Abby Kirchoff finished with 14 points and six rebounds.
Colorado Mesa returns home to Brownson Arena next Saturday night for a matchup with Western State Colorado. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
