Volleyball Preview - Holiday Inn / Crossroads Classic

The Mavericks started their season off with a 3-1 weekend at the Marriot/Residence Inn Oredigger Classic. Colorado Mesa's lone loss came at the hands of 12th ranked Wayne State. This weekend they will play host to the Holiday Inn/Crossroads Classic. Here is a quick look at the teams they will be facing.

Grand Canyon University 'Lopes (4-0)

Last Week for the 'Lopes: Grand Canyon went 4-0 in their own GCU Invitational last weekend. The Lopes defeated RMAC Foe UCCS (3-0), 17th ranked UC-San Diego (3-1), Central Washington (3-2), and 2011 NCAA Runner-up #3 Cal State-San Bernadino (3-1). The 'Lopes were receiving votes in this week's AVCA National poll.

'Lopes to Watch: Kristen Preach (Sr. , Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jenae Giles (Sr. , Sandy, Utah) lead Grand Canyon's attack. Preach, the setter, finished last weekend with 169 assists and 21 kills. Giles, on the other hand, led GCU in kills with 45 and had an attack percentage of .266.

Last Week for the Tigers: Fort Hays swept through the Panhandle State Tournament going 4-0. The Tigers won 3-0 over University of the Southwest and Bacone College while defeating RMAC Foe Fort Lewis and Southern Arkansas 3-2. In the tournament, the Tigers had an attack percentage of 21.2 and converted 28 service aces.

Tiger to Watch: Kylee Hoagland (So. , Mead, Colo.) led the Tigers with 47 kills while only committing 18 errors. Hoagland also had 6 service aces, 11 blocks and 14 digs.

Last Week for the Pioneers: Texas Woman's swept there way through there own tournament, all in just three sets. The Pioneers defeated East Central, Arkansas-Monticello, RMAC Foe New Mexico Highlands, Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. In those four wins, TWU had a 19.6 attack percentage and had 22 total blocks.

Pioneer to Watch: Viktorija Jablonska (Sr. , Daugavpils, Latvia) led the Pioneer attack with 38 kills (3.45/set) and 8 block assists. Jablonska also had 5 service aces and had 13 digs.

Last Week for the Aggies: Oklahoma Panhandle went 2-2 in the OPSU Aggie Challenge. They defeated both Southwest Christian (3-1) and Bacone College (3-2) but fell to RMAC Foe Fort Lewis (3-0) and University of the Southwest (3-1).

Aggie to Watch: Erica Skipper (Fr. , San Antonio, Texas) is a freshman outside hitter who took most of the swings during the Aggie Challenge and look for her to continue that effort.
