Colorado Mesa men's tennis opened the fall season with dual victories over University Texas Permian Basin 8-1 and Montana State Billings 5-4 on Saturday in Colorado Spring (Air Force Academy).
CMU swept all six singles matches over Texas Permian Basin dropping just two sets in the six duals. In doubles action Jordan Lyden and Andres Hernandez were victorious at number one doubles and the Mavs' number 3 doubles team of Taylor Macres and Trevor Brown gave up just one game in an 8-1 victory.
Saturday afternoon against Montana State Billings, the Mavericks jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles competition. CMU's number 1 team of Lyden and Hernandez and number 3 team of Macres and Brown defeated their opponents 8-3 and 8-4 respectively.
Jordan Lyden swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at number 1 singles. Lyden went 4-0 on Saturday. Trevor Brown won 6-1, 6-2 at number 3 singles and Taylor Macres won 7-6, 6-4 at number 5 singles to secure the win. MSUB defeated CMU at number 2, 4 and 6 singles in straight sets.
Next up for the Mavericks are four duals beginning with Colorado College on Thursday in Colorado Springs. Friday CMU will travel to Pueblo to play Emporia State and Newman University. The Mavs will close out the weekend on Saturday against University Neb.-Kearney.
