The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team took on RMAC Rival and 2nd ranked Fort Lewis in the RMAC Opener for both teams at Walker Field Friday afternoon. The two teams could not settle anything and the match ended in a nil-nil tie. The Mavericks record now sits at 3-0-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in the RMAC, while Fort Lewis is now 3-0-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in RMAC matches.
The Mavericks matched the Skyhawks for the first 90 minutes of the match and in overtime were able to hold on for the tie. Fort Lewis outshot the Mavericks in the match 17-15 but CMU had 8 shots on goal while the Skyhawks only had 7.
Goalie
Sarah Schnetzler made a game-saving save late in the first overtime period. Fort Lewis' Sam Weiss dribbled down the left side of the field and ripped a shot towards the far post. Schnetzler layed out and made the save with only 12 seconds left in the period.
Colorado Mesa will take on the Colorado Christian Cougars on Sunday at 3:00pm at Walker Field.
