Colorado Mesa (21-13, 19-11 RMAC) swept opening day series doubleheader over visiting Western New Mexico (13-30, 8-22) Friday afternoon at Bergman Field, 10-4 and 11-4 to extend their win streak to three games.

In game two CMU led off the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs in the first and four in the second for a 7-0 lead. The Mustangs added two in the top of the third on two solo homeruns, including an in-the-park homerun by Kaitylnn Barnes for a 7-2 CMU lead.

The Mustangs added two in the fifth (4-7) and the Mavericks answered back in the bottom with two runs to extend the lead to 9-4. Lauren Cross led off with a solo homerun and Lita Romero's single bunt scored Shannon McClenahan (triple). CMU added two runs in the sixth on four hits and one Mustang error for an 11-4 final score.

Ashley Pulido pitched the complete and picked up win number six (6-6). She allowed four runs on nine hits, one walk and struck out two.

In game one the Mavericks trailed 4-1 heading in to the bottom of the fifth inning the Mavericks exploded for 7 runs and tacked on two runs in the sixth for a 10-4 game one victory. CMU scored 7 runs on 3 hits taking advantage of two Mustang errors in the fifth.

Jessica Albertson, Courtney Maihi and Lisa Pille each registered two hits and combined for five RBI and five runs. Pille hit two doubles and Maihi led off the second inning with a solo homerun.

Maihi picked up the victory and improves to 12-6 on the year. She allowed four runs on 10 hits and struck out five.

CMU and WNMU will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 am.
