Colorado Mesa (25-20) softball beat number one seed and tournament host Colorado School of Mines (29-23) 4-0 on Thursday afternoon in Golden. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Softball Championships began the double elimination tournament on Thursday morning with the winner of the tournament earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Regional.
CMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two innings scoring three runs on three hits in the top of the second inning.
Courtney Maihi led off the inning with a single to right field. Maihi stole second base and scored on
Megan Smith's single to left field. With one out
Shannon McClenahan walked and
Tawnee Woosley doubled to center field scoring Smith.
Lita Romero reached on a fielder's choice to score McClenahan. The Orediggers closed out the inning with a strikeout and ground out.
Maihi extended the Mavs' lead to 4-0 on a solo homerun in the top of the third. Maihi went 3 for 3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Ashley Pulido picked up her ninth win on the year with the complete game shutout. She allowed four hits, zero walks and struck out two.
CMU will play Neb.-Kearney on Friday morning at 10 am in Golden. The number five seeded Lopers defeated #4-seed Colorado Christian 7-0 earlier in the day.
