Colorado Mesa (23-17, 21-15 RMAC) dropped Sunday's doubleheader to visiting Neb.-Kearney (22-20, 19-13 RMAC), falling 8-2 in game one and 4-2 in the series finale. Six seniors were honored prior to the first pitch;
Lauren Cross,
Courtney Maihi,
Shannon McClenahan,
Lety Perez,
Lita Romero and
Danielle Vallie.
In game one CMU scored a run in the second on a solo homerun to right field by
Lauren Cross for a 1-0 lead. Cross' RBI single to center in the fifth scored
Jessica Albertson (single) to close the gap to 2-6. Neb.-Kearney scored four runs in the fourth and two each in the fifth and sixth for an 8-2 victory.
Lauren Cross was 2 for 2 with two RBI and one run.
Jessica Albertson was 2 for 4 with one run.
Courtney Maihi went 4.0 innings giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, two walks and one strikeout.
Ashley Pulido pitched the final three innings allowing three runs on five hits and recording one strikeout.
In game two UNK took an early 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double. CMU tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth on an RBI double by
Danielle Vallie scoring
Jessica Albertson (single). UNK put up three runs in the sixth on a three-run homerun by Sarah Rome for a 4-1 Loper lead. CMU cut the lead in half (2-4) on a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth by
Megan Smith. The game was delayed at this point for 30-minutes due to lightening. When play resumed the Lopers closed out the inning with Bailey Backhuus pitching the final two innings.
CMU threatened in the seventh with a runner on first and second following a single by Albertson and a Maihi walk. UNK closed out the game on a ground out and a 4-2 victory.
Ashley Pulido fell to 7-8 on the year going 7.0 innings allowing four runs on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts. CMU outhit the Lopers 9-5 led by
Jessica Albertson's three hits and
Megan Smith's two hits, one RBI and one run.
CMU will close out the regular season next week in Golden versus Colorado School of Mines.
