Mavs drop doubleheader at home to Ft. Lewis

Colorado Mesa (8-6, 6-4 RMAC) fell to Fort Lewis College (10-9, 8-2 RMAC) in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Bergman Field. CMU fell 18-15 in game one and lost game two 10-9. The Skyhawks came from behind in both games, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh for the victories.

In game one CMU led 15-12 after five complete innings and Ft. Lewis scored three runs in the sixth on a three-run homerun to tie the game at 15-15. In the top of the seventh the Skyhawks took a 17-15 lead on a two-run homerun by Natalie Janes. Stephanie Janes' solo homerun pushed the lead to 18-15. CMU recorded a single in their bottom half, but FLC closed out the game on a ground to the pitcher. FLC had five homeruns in the game.

Shannon McClenahan and Danielle Vallie each went 3 for 4 for the plate. McClenahan had five RBI and scored one run.

Ashley Pulido allowed 18 runs on 18 hits, walked four and struck out four.

Katie Watkins came on in relief and recorded her first victory. Olivia Bergman was credited with the save.

In game two jumped out to a 6-3 lead after three innings. CMU scored four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth for a 9-6 lead. The Skyhawks scored one run in the sixth to close the gap to 7-9. In the top of the seventh Myndee Thompson's pinch-hit, three –run blast gave the Skyhawks a 10-9 lead. CMU lead off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, before FLC retired the side and recorded the sweep.

Courtney Maihi pitched 7.0 innings allowing 10 runs (7 earned) on 15 hits. Maihi walked three and struck out five.

Danielle Vallie went 3 for 5 with three runs and one RBI. Maihi hit a two-run homerun in the fourth and finished the day 2 for 4 with two runs and four RBI.

CMU will host Black Hills State on Saturday and Sunday at Bergman Field. Saturday's doubleheader starts at Noon.
