Mavs split at NM Highlands

Colorado Mesa softball (7-3, 5-1 RMAC) bounced back in game two of their doubleheader at New Mexico Highlands on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks fell in game on 12-10 as the Cowgirls staged a comeback for the victory. CMU jumped out early in game two and defeated NMHU 11-1 in six innings.

Lauren Cross went 3 for 4 with six RBI and one run in game two, helping the Mavs to an 11-1 win. Cross hit a triple and a homerun in the game. Taylor Gross went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and three RBI. CMU scored 11 runs on 12 hits.

The Mavs led 6-0 after two innings and gave up they only run to the Cowgirls in the bottom of the third inning. CMU went on to score one run in the fourth and four in the sixth to clinch the victory.

Catherine Floyd went the distance allowing one run on six hits in 6.0 innings. Floyd walked one and registered one strikeout.

In game on the series the Cowgirls rallied for a 12-10 win after trailing 9-4 through four innings. NMHU scored four runs in fifth and sixth inning to take a 12-9 lead. CMU tacked on one run in the top of the seventh, falling 12-10. CMU had 10 runs on 13 hits and committed four errors. NMHU scored 12 runs on 10 hits.

Ashley Pulido allowed 10 runs (8 earned) on nine hits. She walked eight batters and struck out two in 5.1 innings. Catherine Floyd pitched the final 0.2 innings and gave up two runs on one hit, striking out one.

Colorado Mesa and New Mexico will return to the diamond on Sunday for a scheduled doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
