Colorado Mesa (17-11, 15-9 RMAC) swept Sunday's doubleheader over Colorado Christian (18-15, 14-6 RMAC) winning game one 9-4 and closing out the four game series in a 6-2 victory.
CMU scored at least one run in every inning and exploded for four runs in the third on the way to a 9-4 victory. CMU registered 11 hits including six extra base hits.
Courtney Maihi went 3 for 4 with five RBI and one run scored. Maihi (10-6) pitched 7.0 innings for the victory recording four strikeouts and no walks.
CMU led 2-0 after two innings and 6-2 after three. CCU closed the gap to 6-4 in the fourth before the Mavs scored one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth to close out the game 9-4.
Lita Romero, Lisa Pille and Mackenzy Derrick each tallied two hits and combined for four runs and four RBI. Pille and Derrick were each 2 for 3 from the plate.
In game two CMU gave up one run in the top of the first and answered back in the bottom half of the inning with four runs. The Mavs put up one run in the second and third for six runs on eight hits. The Cougars put up one run in the third before being held scoreless in the final four innings.
Courtney Maihi's single to right field scored two runs in the first. Jessica Albertson singled to center field followed by a single through the left side by Danielle Vallie. Maihi's single scored Albertson and Vallie. Megan Smith's two-run homerun scored Maihi and the Mavs held a 4-1 lead after one inning.
Vallie's RBI single in the second scored Drayer (reached on error) and a solo homerun in the third by Mackenzy Derrick pushed the Mavericks lead to 6-2.
Ashley Pulido (4-4) pitched the complete game allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out seven batters.
Next up for the Mavericks is a four-game set at Chardon State on Saturday and Sunday in Chadron, NE.
