Mavs split RMAC doubleheader at Ft. Lewis

Colorado Mesa (11-9, 9-7 RMAC) split a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games at Fort Lewis College (14-11, 12-4) on Thursday winning game one 12-1 (5 innings) before falling 12-5 in game two.

The Mavericks scored early and often in game one putting up six runs in the first inning and scoring at least one run in four of the five innings. CMU scored 12 runs on 12 hits and starting pitcher Courtney Maihi allowed just one run on two hits, picking up her seventh win (7-4) on the season.

Megan Smith and Lisa Pille had three hits each and combined for four RBI and six runs. Shannon McClenahan was 2 for 3 with four RBI and one run scored. In 26 at-bats the Mavs struck out just once and walked five times.

Fort Lewis College turned the tables in game two scoring 12 runs on 15 hits, despite making three errors. The Skyhawks scored multiple runs in four of the six innings on the way to a 12-5 victory.

Maihi (7-5) started for the Mavs and allowed six runs on six hits and was credited with the loss. Taylor Gross and Ashley Pulido each saw action in the game, pitching two and three innings respectively.

Smith, Pille and Jessica Albertson combined for six of the Mavs' nine hits. Pille was 2 for 4 with three RBI including a two-run homerun in the top of the first.

CMU will travel to Colorado Springs for a four-game set with UC-Colorado Springs Mountain Lions on Saturday and Sunday.
