CMU drops road game at Lake Erie College

The Colorado Mesa University Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Painesville, Ohio on Sunday to take on the Lake Erie College Storm.

 

It was a hard fought loss for the Mavericks as they continue to look for their first road win of the season.

 

The Mavericks were up 3-0 within the first 3 minutes of the game before the Storm tied it 6-6 with 19:39 remaining in the half.  For the next 6 minutes of game time the Mavericks and Storm traded goals to keep it tied 8-8 with 13:14 left in the half.  The Storm then went on an 8-1 run to end the first half up 16-9.

 

The Storm would add another goal within the first two minutes of the second half before the Mavericks went on an 8-1 run of their own stay one goal behind with 6:25 left in the half. After one goal from both teams the score would be 19-18 with 4:05 left in the half but the Mavericks struggled to find the net as the Storm added one more to their total; the final score was 20-18.

 

Allie Henderson led the offensive effort as she tallied 4 goals on 6 shots with 1 assist, 5 groundballs, 2 draw controls, and 1 caused turnover.  Amanda Simon also helped with 4 goals on 7 shots with 5 draw controls and Rachael Sutton added 4 goals on 5 shorts with 2 groundballs, 7 draw controls and 1 caused turnover.

 

Tayler Lansdown also had a good day as she had 3 goals on 4 shots with 1 assist and 2 groundballs; Keri Kopchik had 2 goals on 5 shots with one assist, 3 ground balls, 1 draw control and 1 caused turnover.  Kate Diamond rounded out the Mavericks offensive effort with 1 goal on 3 shots with 1 assist, 1 groundball, and 1 turnover.

 

Myka Wiebe led the defensive effort for the Mavs as she tallied 3 groundballs and 3 caused turnovers; Lauren Wells earned the decision for the Mavs as she spent the entire game in goal with 7 saves.

 

The Mavericks continue their season on March 13 when they travel to Urbana, Ohio to take on the Urbana University Blue Knights.
