Colorado Mesa (9-7, 7-5 RMAC) split Saturday's doubleheader  hosting RMAC foe Black Hills State University (3-12, 3-7 RMAC) at Bergman Field. CMU won game one 6-1 but dropped game two 11-9 to the Yellow Jackets.

In game one CMU trailed 1-0 after one inning after allowing Black Hills State an unearned run, before closing the door and shutting out the Yellow Jackets the next six innings. CMU scored five runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to take game one.

Shannon McClenahan's two-run blast to left field gave the Mavs a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. A double by Carson Cooper scored Lisa Pille (walked) and an error by the Yellow Jacket's catcher scored Lita Romero (hit by pitch) for a 5-1 lead. CMU added one run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Maihi and the Mavericks shut down BHSU giving up just two hits in the final two innings for the win.

Maihi pitched a complete game and picked up her fifth win on the year (5-3). Maihi allowed five hits, 1 run (unearned), walked three and struck out four.

In game two Black Hills State scored two runs in the first inning only to have CMU answer back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning for a 3-2 lead. BHSU jumped back on top scoring three runs in the third for a 6-3 lead. CMU closed the gap to 6-4 on an RBI double by McClenahan in the bottom of the third.

Black Hills opened up the game scoring four runs in the fourth, pushing the lead to 9-4 lead. CMU got three runs (9-7) back in the fifth, on an RBI double by Danielle Vallie and a two run homerun by Maihi.

CMU allowed two more runs in the sixth for an 11-7 Yellow Jacket lead. CMU put up one run each in the bottom half of the sixth and seventh (11-9), but a double play by the Jackets in the seventh ended the Mav rally and the game.
