Colorado Mesa women's basketball (9-12, 7-10 RMAC) snapped a six game losing streak beating Chadron State College (8-13, 8-9) 67-63 in Chadron on Saturday night.
Hanna Bowden led all players with 13 points and 12 rebounds in 33 minutes of action Bowden posted back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in her career. Friday night in an overtime loss at Neb.-Kearney, Bowden had 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Katrina Selsor played 28 minutes and finished with 12 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal in her first game back after missing the last four games due to injury. Amy Weitzeil and Leanndra Gilbert each finished with 10 points and Gilbert had a season high eight rebounds.
CMU trailed by one point at half (32-33) and opened the second half on a layup by Tara Gehring for a 34-33 lead. The Mavericks would not trail again until the 5:46 mark when the Eagles tied the game on a jumper by Kaitlin Petri (53-53) and a CMU turnover on the next possession resulted in a trey by Lexi Smidt. The Eagles took a 56-53 lead and held on to the lead until the 2:29 mark when Selsor hit a 3-pointer for a 62-61 CMU lead. The lead exchanged hands twice with 48-seconds remaining in regulation when Leanndra Gilbert's jumper gave CMU a 64-63 lead. CMU closed out the final seconds with a Kelsey Sigl layup and free throw. Gilbert hit two foul shots with five second left to seal the victory.
CMU outscored the Eagles 34-18 in the paint and completely dominated the boards out-rebounding the Eagles 40-23.
CMU will return home to host New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico on Friday and Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm in Brownson Arena.
