CMU drops non-conference game to Lake Erie

Colorado Mesa University Women's Lacrosse team continued their season on Saturday with a non-conference matchup against Lake Erie College.

The Mavericks are still searching for their first win of the season as they dropped the game 12-6.  The Lake Erie College Storm jumped out to a 3-1 lead but the Mavericks showed their resolve as they fought back to tie the game 3-3 with 9:09 to play.  Both the Storm and the Mavericks traded quick goals in the next 1:15 to keep the game tied 4-4.  The Storm closed out the half with two goals to go up 6-4.

It was almost a tale of two halves as the Storm scored four unanswered goals to go up 4-10 and the Mavericks could not recover.

Rachael Sutton continued to be the bright spot for the Mavericks as she led the team with two goals on six shots, four of which were on goal.  She also grabbed two groundballs and four draw controls as well as one caused turnover.  Amanda Simon also had a good day with two goals on five shots, two on goal.

Allie Henderson and Tayler Lansdown had one goal apiece as Allie also grabbed two groundballs and four draw controls; Allie had two caused turnovers and Taylor had one.

Lauren Wells got the decision as she racked up six saves in the game.

The Mavericks continue their season on Friday, March 2, 2012 when they take on Adams State at Walker Field at 7:00 PM.
