Mavs Sweep T-Wolves in Home Opener Doubleheader

W 5-4, W 14-6

Colorado Mesa softball (4-2, 2-0 RMAC) defeated visiting CSU-Pueblo (2-4, 0-2 RMAC) on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader at Bergman Field. The Mavericks won game one 5-4 and game two 14-6 in six innings.

CMU scored 5 runs on 5 hits in game one as starting pitcher Catherine Floyd improved to 2-0 on the year. Floyd allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, walked three batters and struck out one.

The Mavericks scored two runs in the second and one run each in the third, fourth and sixth inning for a 5-0 lead. CSU-Pueblo scored four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh before the Mavs closed out the game on a line-out to second base.

Jessica Albertson's triple in the second scored Lisa Pille (single) and Megan Smith (walk) for a 2-0 lead. Lauren Cross' double in the second scored Danielle Vallie (walk). Pille doubled in the fourth for an RBI and a bases loaded catcher interference in the sixth pushed the Mav lead to 5-0.

In game two CMU starter Courtney Maihi allowed 6 runs on 5 hits in six innings, improving her record to 2-2 overall. Maihi walked 2 batters and struck out three. CMU scored 14 runs on 16 hits scoring at least two runs in all but the third inning. CMU put up four runs in the first and sixth and added two runs each in the second, fourth and fifth inning. CSU-Pueblo had six runs on five hits.

Jessica Albertson went 4 for 5 in game two with four runs scored. Danielle Vallie and Courtney Maihi each had three hits and combined for four runs and six RBI. Maihi had five RBI including a 2-run homerun in the fifth. Lita Romero went 2 for 3 with one run scored.

CMU and CSU-Pueblo will play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
