Colorado Mesa University Men's Lacrosse team opened the season on Saturday with a 10-3 win over Adams State College.

The Mavericks struck first on the scoreboard with a goal by Aaron Eggiman which was quickly answered by the Grizzlies; Trace Wollner added one more in the first quarter to go up 2-1; both Maverick goals came on extra man opportunities.  The Grizzlies tied in with 5:55 to go in the second but the Mavericks quickly responded with another go ahead goal from Dillon Bernad to close out the half 3-2.

The Mavericks went up 5-2 with back-to-back goals from Kade Robinson barely a minute apart in the 3rd quarter as the Grizzlies responded with a goal of their own with 9:55 to play to keep the game close going into the fourth quarter.

That's when the Mavericks got the fire burning.

The Mavericks struck fast within the first 32 seconds of the final quarter on a goal from Austin Pridham and the Mavericks would not let up.  James Sharp and Trace Wollner had one goal apiece within the first five minutes to put the Mavericks up 8-3 and they would not look back.  Pridham would add two more goals to the Mavericks total before the game expired.

Pridham easily had the best day stat wise as he recorded three goals on four shots with three groundballs. Kade Robinson and Trace Wollner both had two goals as Robinson also grabbed four groundballs and one caused turnover; Wollner snagged three groundballs and also had one caused turnover.  Aaron Eggiman, James Sharp and Dillon Bernad were the owners of the Mavericks three remaining goals.

Thomas Spain fought hard on every faceoff has he finished the game 8-16 on all faceoff opportunities with four groundballs.  Daniel Caddoo led the team with six groundballs as well as two caused turnovers.  Brad Brandenburg and Zach Weaver split time in the goal as Brandenburg earned the decision with four saves; Weaver also earned four saves.

The Mavericks continue their season on Tuesday, March 6, when they take on Le Moyne College at Walker Field.
