The Colorado Mesa University wrestling team wrapped up the dual portion of their schedule on Wednesday night with a matchup against the Colorado Mines Orediggers. The Mavericks and Orediggers each won 5 of the bouts but a forfeit at 125 pounds and a major decision at 197 pounds was all it took for the Orediggers as they would go on and win 19-15. CMU falls to 8-12 on the season and 3-6 in RMAC duals.

Redshirt Freshman James Martinez picked up a win on the night at 141 pounds with a 4-0 win over Oredigger Mikie Burgess. Martinez pushed his record 19-9 on the season and 5-2 in RMAC duals. Martinez, ranked 8th in the most recent NWCA rankings, should receive a top 4 seed at the NCAA Super Region 4/RMAC Championships at the end of the month.

157 pounder Jon Gappmaier picked up a big victory on Wednesday night. Gappmaier defeated 8th ranked Steven Kelly 6-3 and moved his season record to 27-7 on the season and 9-1 in RMAC duals. With the win, Gappamaier should receive the #2 seed in the NCAA Regional Tournament behind 2nd ranked TJ Hepburn of Nebraska-Kearney.

Nick Petersen picked up a win on Wednesday night with a 4-2 decision over Oredigger Ryan Swanson. Petersen improved his record to 23-11 and 7-3 in RMAC duals.         Next up for the Mavericks is the NCAA Super Region 4 / RMAC Championships in Hays, Kansas, starting February 25th. The top four finishers in each weight class will move on to the NCAA Championships in Pueblo, Colo. on March 9th.
