Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team fell at Division I Utah State University, 6-1, on Saturday morning on the campus of Utah State in Logan, Utah.
The Mavericks notched a victory at number 3 singles when freshman Jordan Lyden defeated Utah State's Matt Sweet 6-7, 6-2, 10-4. Lyden won the super-tiebreak to earn the Mavs' lone point in the dual and claim his first victory in the opening dual of 2012.
Utah State swept all three doubles matches for the lone point and a 1-0 lead heading in to singles play. Division I tennis scores an individual point for each of the six singles matches. The winner of 2 of the 3 doubles matches, receive one point.
CMU dropped the remaining five singles matches in straight sets. Number one singles player Brason Hollabaugh fell 6-2, 6-1 to Utah State's Sven Poslusny. The Mavs number two player, Andres Hernandez fell 6-1, 6-3 to Marcus Fritz. Utah State won number 4 through 6 singles matches losing just a combined six games.
CMU will return to action on March 10 when the team travels to the Phoenix area for spring break. The Mavericks have seven matches scheduled beginning with Grand Canyon on March 10.
