Colorado Mesa improved to 6-0 (2-0 RMAC) Saturday night defeating Black Hills State University 77-48 in Spearfish, SD. The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets to 2-4 overall (1-1 RMAC) in their inaugural season in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
CMU had three players register double digits led by Katrina Selsor's 20 points and seven rebounds. Katrina had 12 points in the first half and finished 7 of 8 from the floor and 8 of 8 from the foul line. Kelsey Sigl added 17 points and Bruna Deichmann had 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Mavericks pulled away late in the first half with a 12-0 run extending a five point lead (28-23) to a 17 point advantage (40-23) to close out the first half. CMU held the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the final 7:07 of the first half.
CMU opened the second half hitting five of their first six shots and quickly pushed the lead to 27 points (53-26) at the 17:46 mark. Taylor Rock scored nine points in the second half while Katrina Selsor and Sigl combined for 6 of 7 from the floor.
The Mavericks shot 42 percent from the field (25-60) and hit 16 of 18 from the foul line. The Mavericks hit 11 treys, three each from Rock and Sharaya Selsor.
Black Hills State was led by Calli Bechtel's 10 points. The Yellow Jackets shot 39.6 percent from the field (19-48) and finished with 18 turnovers.
CMU will open up home RMAC action on Friday and Saturday at Brownson Arena. The Mavs will host Western New Mexico on Friday and New Mexico Highlands on Saturday evening. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
