Big Second Half Leads #19 CMU to 77-62 Win

            The Colorado Mesa University Women's Basketball team took on RMAC rival Fort Lewis tonight in Durango. The Mavericks were ranked 19th in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association / USA Today Sports National Poll but came into the game losers of seven of their past eight games against the Skyhawks.

            Colorado Mesa outscored the Skyhawks 43-26 in the second half and cruised to a 77-62 victory. The Mavericks led by as many as 20 points (5:13-2nd) and outrebounded Fort Lewis 42-28 in the game.

            The Mavericks went into the locker room at half trailing 36-34. It was the first time this season they trailed at the half. At the 4:20 mark of the first half, the Mavericks trailed by seven but also led by as many as six which was at the 12:21 mark.

            Katrina Selsor led the Mavericks in scoring at half with 12 points and also snarred seven rebounds. Kelsey Sigl chipped in with ten points. Skyhawk Christie Groh led all scorers with 13 points at halftime.

            At the 19:04 mark of the second half, Colorado Mesa took the lead and would not let it go the rest of the game. Christen Lopez drove to the dish and layed it up and in. The Lopez layup led to a 9-0 run for the Mavericks.

           Kelsey Sigl led a trio of CMU players in double figures with 24 points. Sigl hit an all-time mark in the game tonight. Sigl is now the 15th Maverick to reach the 1,000 point mark and is the first Maverick to reach that mark since Brittany Fowler accomplished that feat in 2006.

            Katrina Selsor picked up her fourth double-double of the year with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Christen Lopez chipped in 16 points and dished out two assists while eights were wild for Sharaya Selsor as she added eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

            CMU moved their record to 9-0 and 5-0 in the RMAC while the Skyhawks fell to 2-6 and 1-3 in RMAC play.

            The Mavericks will travel to frigid Alamosa, Colo. for a showdown with the Adams State Grizzlies. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm from Plachy Hall.
