Colorado Mesa improved to 5-0 (1-0 RMAC) and opened up RMAC action with a victory at Chadron State College on Friday night beating the Eagles 87-43 in Chadron, NE.
Four Mavs notched double digits led by Kelsey Sigl's game high 17 points. Bruna Deichmann finished with 15 points off the bench. Hanna Bowden recorded 11 points and a game high eight rebounds and Effo Baker added 10 points.
The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead as CMU missed the first seven shot attempts and turned the ball over twice in the first three minutes. Sigl hit a trey at 16:53 and the Mavs went on a 19-0 run to take a 19-7 lead with 8:29 remaining in the first half. Chadron was held to just six points after their initial 5-0 spurt to start the game. CMU held a 38-11 halftime advantage.
CMU outscored the Eagles 49-32 in the second half and held its largest lead (69-22) of 47 points mid-way through the second half. CMU shot 50 percent for the field (33-66) and held the Eagles to 13 field goals (13-52) and forced 26 Chadron turnovers.
The Mavericks will travel to Spearfish, SD for a matchup with Black Hills State University on Saturday night. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
