Colorado Mesa men's tennis team closed out their fall 2012 season (5-2 overall) at home this weekend hosting Colorado Christian University and Metro State University of Denver. CMU swept the Cougars and fell 5-4 to the Roadrunners of Metro. On Saturday the Mavericks blanked Colorado School of Mines' club team 9-0.
CMU's beat Colorado Christian 9-0 sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets and allowing just seven games in three pro-set doubles matches.
Metro's 5-4 victory over CMU saw the Mavericks take an early 2-1 lead winning two of the three doubles matches. CMU's number one team of Jordan Lyden and Andres Hernandez won 8-5, while the Mavs number three team of Andres Garcia-Rojas and John Hendrickson won 8-3.
Taylor Macres (#5) and Andres Hernandez (#6) each won in straight sets in singles action. Macres is a perfect 7-0 this fall in singles and Hernandez is 6-1 overall.
The Roadrunners then put together a string of close wins clinching the dual by winning the top four singles matches, 3 of the 4 coming down to three sets. Jordan Lyden (#1) fell 11-9 in a third set super tie-break. Number two singles player Andres Garcia-Rojas lost in two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Trevor Brown (#3) lost the first set 6-1 and bounced back to take the second set 6-4. Brown and his opponent tallied 30 points in a third set super tie-break before Metro's John Qualls won 16-14 for the win. Brason Hollabaugh dropped a three-setter; 6-1, 3-6, 7-10.
CMU closed out the busy weekend with a 9-0 win over Colorado School of Mines' club team in an exhibition match.
