October 27, 2012 –
Hard hitting rugby action dominated the day at Dixson Field, as the women's and men's CMU Rugby Teams won 2 out of 3 games played in their final home matches of the fall season.
CMU women hosted Utah State University to start the day. The ladies from Logan, were unable to field a full 15 players, so the game was technically a forfeit; however after being loaned a few CMU players, the match was played. Strong support and skillful play resulted in a one-sided 109-5 victory for CMU. With this victory, the CMU women's rugby team improved their record to 2-1, in advance of next week's road trip to Utah Valley University.
The tables were turned when the Men's team hosted the Colorado School of Mines later in the day. Physical play from a very fit and coordinated Mines side, lead to a 59-10 loss for the Mavericks. The loss dropped the men's record to 2-3, in advance of their next game against Western Colorado University.
The Men's side found redemption in the following B-side game against Mines, when strong support and coordinated phased rugby led a robust CMU side to a 39-10 victory.
CMU Rugby plays all of its matches at Dixson Field - the home of Grand Junction Rugby - located at 1800 Bacon Ct, near the intersection of Unaweep and 27 Rd.
