Colorado Mesa women's tennis team opened the fall 2012 dual portion of their schedule in Pueblo falling to Emporia State 7-2 on Friday morning at City Park. CMU dropped a 6-3 decision to Ft. Hays State on Friday afternoon. On Saturday the Mavs fell to Newman University 7-2 and dropped their final dual of the weekend to former RMAC foe, University Neb.-Kearney 7-2.
Kaylee Davis and Shannen McNamara won 9-7 over UNK's number one doubles team. Freshman Michelle Phillips defeated the Lopers' number three singles player in three sets; 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 for the Mavs' two dual points.
Against Newman Phillips and doubles partner Katie Metz won 8-6 at number three double and Nicole Lessley posted a singles victory at number 6, winning in straight sets for the Mavericks.
In the dual versus Ft. Hays State on Friday, the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead sweeping all three doubles matches. CMU battled back in singles action splitting the six singles matches before falling 6-3. The Mavs' Kaylee Davie (#1), Michelle Phillips (#3) and Skyler Nelson (#6) all won their respective singles matches.
CMU opened the weekend Friday morning against Emporia State falling to the Hornets 7-2. CMU's Kristyn Wykert (#2) and Skyler Nelson (#5) posted singles victories for the Mavericks.
CMU will open up at home this weekend beginning Thursday at 5:30 PM versus Dixie State College. Friday the Mavericks will play Colorado Christian (2:30 PM) and Saturday host Metro State College at 8:30 AM.
