Mavericks Hold on for a 1-0 Win over Roadrunners

            The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team took on the Metro State Roadrunners on Friday night at Walker Field. The Mavericks scored an early goal and held on late to pick up a 1-0 win over Metro State. Colorado Mesa's record improves to 9-3-3 overall and 6-3-2 in the RMAC while Metro State falls to 10-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the RMAC. With the win, the Mavericks clinched a berth in the RMAC tournament through tiebreakers.

            The Mavericks lone goal of the match came in the 15th minute of the match. Tayler Franklin broke through the defense and was fortunate enough to win a 50/50 ball with the Roadrunner goalie and scored on the right side of the net. The goal was her first of the season and gave the Mavericks the only goal they needed.

            At the 62:07 mark of the match, Lauren Brouse picked up her second yellow card which forced the Mavericks to play a man short for nearly 30 minutes.

            The Mavericks played exceptional defense during that stretch, facing 20 second half shots. Goalkeeper Sarah Schnetzler made an astounding 14 saves in the match and picked up the shutout.

            Colorado Mesa will play their final home match of the regular season on Sunday against the Regis Rangers at 12:00pm at Walker Field.
