Colorado Mesa men's tennis team defeated Emporia State and Newman University on Friday before dropping its first match of the season on Sunday to University of Neb.-Kearney.
Freshman Taylor Macres remains undefeated on the season posting a 3-0 singles record sweeping all three opponents in straight sets. Senior Andres Hernandez registered straight set victories in each of his three singles matches.
In CMU's only loss of the season came at the hands of former RMAC foe University of Neb.-Kearney. The Lopers swept the three doubles matches to start the dual. CMU won four of the six singles matches to tie the match at 3-3. UNK edged out the win with two wins in singles action, including a three-set victory to clinch the match.
Macres is 5-0 on the year and Trevor Brown, Hernandez, Brason Hollabaugh and Jordan Lyden are each 4-1 in singles play. The Mavs' doubles team of Hernandez and Lyden are 3-2 at number one doubles and CMU's number three team of Brown and Macres are 3-2 overall.
CMU will showcase its talent at home this weekend with three scheduled matches beginning on Friday vs. Colorado Christian at 2:30 PM. On Saturday CMU will host Metro State at 8:30 am and Colorado School of Mines at 4 pm.
