The Colorado Mesa University wrestling team had its second dual in consecutive nights last night against RMAC rival Western State. The Mountaineers came into the match on a 4-match win streak and ranked 18th in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. Earlier this season, the two teams squared off with the Mavericks coming out on top 21-15. Last night, Colorado Mesa prevailed once again with an 18-13 win over Western State. The Mavericks won 6 of the 10 contested bouts including big wins at 133 pounds and 197 pounds.
Junior
Tyler Nelson picked up a huge win at 133 pounds with a win over Matt Greene. Coming into the match, Greene had the RMAC's best record at 133 pounds with an overall mark of 23-2 and in their previous match, Greene defeated Nelson 6-1. This time around Nelson got the best of Greene with a 3-2 victory. With the win, Nelson improves his season mark to 14-7 and 3-2 in the RMAC.
The other key win of the night came from 197 pounder
Jordan Passehl. Passehl avenged his earlier loss to Mountaineer Sam Mangum with a 9-7 win. Mangum came into the bout with 17-3 mark on the season and ranked second in the RMAC. Passehl moved his season record to 12-13 and sealed the dual for the Mavericks.

Jon Gappmaier continued his winning ways with a 7-4 win over Brandon Montoya at 157 pounds. Gappmaier is now 23-6 on the season and is now riding a 10-match win streak.
Colorado Mesa will return to home action next week. On Thursday night, the Mavericks are slated to take on the CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves at 7pm and the following night they will take on the Adams State Grizzlies. Thursday night will be 'Community Night' and Friday night will be 'Faculty/Senior Night'.
