Mavericks Corral Cowboys 27-10

        The Colorado Mesa Mavericks Wrestling team was looking to bounce back from a rough dual on Thursday against Chadron State. CMU bounced back in a big way on Friday night against the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys winning the dual 27-10, only droppiong two matches on the night. With the win, The Mavericks picked up their first RMAC win of the season (The dual against Western State earlier in the season was a non-RMAC dual.) 
        Freshman Braden Humpherys picked up his first win at home at 141lbs. with a 14-4 major decision over Cowboy Danny Perales. Humpherys has wrestled the past two duals filling in for the injured James Martinez. Humpherys improved his record to 11-7 on the season and gave the Mavericks a 7-6 lead at that point in the dual.
        At 165lbs, Dylan Granard bounced back from a loss the night before with a 19-4 technical fall victory over NMHU's Chris Apodaca. Granard scored a takedown with one second left in the match. With the win, Granard moved his record 11-9 on the season and 3-1 in the RMAC. Granard gave the Mavericks an 18-6 lead in the dual.
        Junior Nick Petersen had the match of the night. Petersen squared off with undefeated Cowboy Igor Gomzin. The two were knotted at 2-2 and headed to overtime. Petersen scored a takedown with about 20 seconds left in the period and scored the 4-2 overtime win. Petersen improved his record to 18-9 on the season and 2-2 in RMAC matches. The win gave the Mavericks a decisive 24-10 lead in the dual.
        The Mavericks went on to win the dual 27-10.
        Colorado Mesa will travel to Greeley to take on Division I Northern Colorado on Wednesday before heading to Gunnison for a rematch with rival Western State on Thursday.
