Mavericks Finish 3-1 at Tracy Borah Duals

        The Colorado Mesa University Wrestling team competed this past weekend at the Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison. The Mavericks competed against Newman University, Air Force, Southwest Minnesota State, and Western Wyoming. They finished the duals with a 3-1 record beating Newman 33-15, Air Force 27-18, and Western Wyoming 47-6 and lost only to Southwest Minnesota 22-15.
        The Mavericks had several outstanding performances inlcuding four wrestlers finishing with a 4-0 record. Tyler Nelson, Trevor Donarski, Jon Gappmaier, and Zak Slotten all finished with 4-0 records. Donarski and Gappmaier also had 2 pins a peice.
        Against Newman, The Mavericks benefitted from 3 pins and 2 forfeits and won four of the seven contested matches in the win. Trevor Donarski, Jon Gappmaier, and Jordan Passehl all picked up pins for Colorado Mesa.
        In the Air Force Dual, CMU won six of the nine contested bouts including five for bonus points (3 majors, 2 pins). Tyler Nelson and Trevor Donarski picked up pins in the dual while Daniel Romero, Zak Slotten and Nick Petersen all picked up major decisions.
        In the Southwest Minnesota State matchup, each of the schools picked up five victories but the Mustangs picked up three bonus point wins in the dual.
        In the final dual of the day, The Mavericks won all nine of the contested matches (CMU forfeited at 141 pounds all day) including pins by Daniel Romero, Jon Gappmaier, Zak Slotten, Nick Petersen, Jordan Passehl, and Paco Retana. Trevor Donarski and Dylan Granard picked up wins by major decision in the dual also.

        The Mavericks also sent a small contingent to Golden for the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open.
        Justin Schumacher placed 3rd for the third consecutive tournament at 157 pounds. Schumacher dropped his opening bout of the tournament but pinned his back through the tournament to place 3rd.
        At 174 pounds, Mitch Wyatt placed 5th, going 3-2 in the tournament.
        
        The Mavericks will be action this week at home against Chadron State on Thursday at 7:00pm and on Friday against N.M. Highlands at 7:00pm. Thursday night's dual will be Operation White Out where fans are encouraged to wear white and Friday night's dual will be Throwback night where the wrestlers will don the throwback singlets. All wrestling duals will be in Brownson Arena.
