Pomona Edges Mavericks

Box Score         The Mavericks women's soccer team concluded its opening weekend with a 2-1 setback to Cal Poly Pomona. Pomona scored goals in the 5th minute and at the 21 minute mark to edge out CMU.
        CMU trailed 1-0 after a Pomona goal in the 5th minute but Maverick junior Kaselyn Butters (Grand Junction, Colo.) answered with a goal in the 8th minute to knot the game at 1-1. Butters' goal was her first on the season and the third in her Maverick career.
        Cal Poly Pomona scored the final goal of the game at the 21 minute mark in the first half and held on to win 2-1.
        Freshman Sarah Schnetzler (Littleton, Colo.) got the start in goal and made 5 saves in the loss.
        CMU will have its home opener on Thursday Sept 8 against Dixie State at Walker Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm. The Mavericks will conclude their home weekend with a match against Grand Canyon on Saturday Sept 10 at 7:00pm.
