Late Heroics Lead to 2-1 OT Win for Mavericks

Box Score         Colorado Mesa trailed for nearly 50 minutes in the middle part of the match against the UCCS Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs earlier today. With 1:23 seconds left in the match, they evened the score. Sophia Whigham floated a ball from around 20 yards out over the goalkeepers head to knot the game at one goal apeice.
        Whigham's goal led to the Mavericks first overtime match of the season. At the 3:59 mark of overtime, Kaitlynn Holt's header gave the Mavericks a come from behind 2-1 win over the Mountain Lions. Holt's header came off a corner kick from Kelci Crispe and was her second goal of the season.
        UCCS took the early lead in the match on a goal from Mountain Lion Jessica Escobedo.
        Freshman Sarah Schnetzler got the start in goal for Colorado Mesa and made 7 saves. The win was Schnetzler's first of her collegiate career.
        CMU moved its record to 5-4-0 on the season and 4-1-0 in RMAC matches while UCCS' record fell to 4-3-0 and 1-3-0 in the RMAC.
        Colorado Mesa will hit the road for a Friday tilt with CSU-Pueblo before returning home on Sunday for a showdown with nationally ranked Ft. Lewis.
