Minot Gets The Best of Mavericks in California

Box Score         Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team opened the season out in California against the Minot State Beavers. The Beavers tallied goals in the 71st minute and the 76th minute to hand the Mavericks the loss, 2-1.

        Freshman Daniela Salinas (Burbank, Calif.) netted the Mavericks lone goal in the match. Salinas' goal came in the 75th minute and knotted the game at 1-1. Daniela won a scrum in front of the net and pushed it past the goalie's left side.

        A Maverick foul in the box proved to be the difference in the match. Minot's Sidney Bockhaven took the PK for the Beavers and converted giving them a 2-1 lead.

        CMU outshot Minot 17-5 in the match and 8-0 in the first half but couldn't find the net on any of the first half attempts. Senior Sara Islas (Chandler, Ariz.) attempted 5 shots with 3 of those on goal and Sophomore Tayler Franklin (Upland, Calif.) took 3 shots, all of them on goal but none of them found the back of the net.

        Senior Arielle Harris (Phoenix, Ariz.) made 2 saves in the loss.

        Colorado Mesa will conclude the California swing on Saturday with a match against Cal Poly Pomona at 11:00am (PDT).
