Toro's Drop Mavericks in Season Opener

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa University men's soccer team opened its season in Carson, Calif. with a matchup with Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toro's notched a goal in the 7th minute and the 79th minute to seal the win, 2-1, in the opener for both teams.
        Cal State Dominguez Hills, the 2008 NCAA National Champions, got an early goal from Billy Gutierrez in the 7th minute to give the Toros an early advantage.
        CMU answered back with a goal of its own. R-Freshman Phil Neuwirth (Eden, Utah) netted his first collegiate goal and evened the game at a goal apeice. Neuwirth's goal came in the 36th minute and was assisted by R-Freshman Stevie Palma (Grand Junction, Colo.) and Junior Jeremy Gwerder (Enumclaw, Wash.)
        Dominguez Hills got the game winner in the 79th minute. Toro Miguel Vasquez took a pass from Wyatt Stucker and found the goal and gave them the edge 2-1.
        R-Freshman Micah Conrads (Cortez, Colo.) got the start in goal and made 4 saves for CMU.
        The Mavericks will conclude their opening weekend swing with a matchup against the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 4:30pm (PDT)
