Lita Romero's walk-off squeeze bunt led the Mavericks to a 2-1 win and doubleheader sweep over league-leading Colorado School of Mines. The two teams are part of a four-team pod being played at Fort Lewis College in Durango.
Trailing 1-0 heading in to the bottom of the seventh MSC's one-out rally produced the tying run after back-to-back singles by Megan Smith and Lisa Pille. With runners on first and second Shannon McClenahan single to centerfield scored pinch-runner Windi Serrano and Pille advanced to third. Romero's sac bunt scored Pille and sealed the doubleheader sweep.
Sara Jordan pitched her second complete game allowing just one run on four hits.
MSC will play a doubleheader Saturday versus Regis University in Durango. First pitch is scheduled for f11 a.m.

Sara Jordan hit a grand slam, a double and pitched a complete game in the Mavericks 7-1 win over Colorado School of Mines in game one of a scheduled doubleheader. The two teams are part of a four-team pod being played at Fort Lewis College in Durango.
Mesa State (14-14, 12-11) scored seven runs on eight hits and held the Orediggers to just one run in the sixth inning. MSC scored six runs in the bottom of the third and added one run in the sixth to earn the victory. Lauren Cross went 2 for 3 with one RBI. Lita Romero, Taylor Gross and Gabriella Parra each had a hit and combined for four runs and two RBI.
Jordan picked up win number nine on the year allowing one run on four hits.
Game two is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
