The Mesa State Men's Lacrosse team continued its winning ways on Friday night with a 6-2 win over the Grand Canyon 'Lopes. In front of 413 fans, scored six unanswered goals after Grand Canyon took an early 1-0 lead. The Mavericks improved their record to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in WILA play.
Jojo Milosevic (Las Vegas, Nev.) scored two goals on four shots in the game. Milosevic scored his first goal at the 9:57 mark of the fourth quarter and his second came eight minutes later at the 1:48 mark. The goals were Jojo's first goals of his career.
Brad Brandenburg (Seal Beach, Calif.) made seven saves in goal but also had great help from his defense who caused ten turnovers. Johnny Nitti (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the team in caused turnovers with five and groundballs with four.
The Mavericks were 20-of-22 on clear opportunities and picked up 27 groundballs as a team while the 'Lopes were 18-of-19 on clears and only 19 groundballs. Grand Canyon was only 1-for-5 on extra man opportunities with Mesa State committing six penalties for a total of 6:30.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Sunday against Lindenwood University. Faceoff is set for 1:00pm at Walker Field.
