Trace Wollner's hat trick led the Mavericks to their fourth consecutive victory in a 7-4 win over non-conference opponent Lindenwood (Mo.).
Mesa State (4-6, 3-3) scored in each of the four periods, outshooting the Lions 48-15 in the contest.
Lindenwood scored first on a goal by Kyle O'Donnell and the Mavericks answered back on Wollner's first goal of the day on an assist from Tony Nelson to close out period one tied at 1-1.
Trevor Ecton scored at the 13:41 mark of the second period for a 2-1 advantage. MSC held the Lions scoreless for seven minutes forcing several turnovers before LU's O'Donnell tied the game at 2-2 on his second goal of the day. MSC's Wollner gave the Mavs the lead at halftime scoring this second goal with 33 seconds remaining in the first half for a 3-2 MSC lead.
Wollner's third goal came in the third quarter (5:54) and the Mavericks led 4-2. Lindenwood closed to within a goal (3-4) as the Lions took advantage of an extra man opportunity at 3:29 left in the third period.
Dakota Klossner scored his first goal of the day to push the lead to 5-3 at the 2:14 mark in the third period. Lindenwood closed the gap once again on a goal by Andrew Peterson with just over a minute left in the third.
In the fourth period the Mavericks sealed the victory shutting out the Lions in the fourth and scoring on back-to-back goals by Andrew Kurth for a 7-4 win.
Brad Brandenburg recorded eight saves in the win and faced 15 shots, 12 shots on goal.
MSC was 8 of 15 in face-offs and 15 for 17 in clears. The Mavericks were 2 of 6 in extra man opportunities and the Lions were successful on 1 of 3 extra man opportunities.
MSC will host Westminster (Utah) this Friday, 7 p.m. at Walker Field.
