Mesa State women's tennis team went 1-2 against regional opponents Friday and Saturday in Nebraska. MSC lost to St. Cloud Friday afternoon indoors in Kearney, Neb. Saturday MSC's matches were forced to move indoors playing in nearby Grand Island, NE for matches with Rockhurst and Mankato.
St. Cloud won two of the three doubles matches, coming from behind to take both number 1 and 3 doubles 9-7. MSC's number two doubles team of Kelleen Sera and Kaitlan Sera won 8-3. St. Cloud won four of the six singles matches to clinch the dual victory. MSC posted wins at number one and four singles for their three points. Kelleen defeated SCSU's number one player 6-3, 6-1 and Kate Lowder (#4) defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-4.
Saturday morning MSC swept Mankato State, clinching the dual after winning five of the nine matches. MSC won all three doubles matches and secured the victory with wins at number one and three singles. Kelleen and Kaitlan Sera each won in straight sets for the team victory.
Rockhurst University defeated MSC Saturday afternoon by the score of 5-1. MSC's number two doubles team of Sera/Sera defeated RU's number two team 8-3. Rockhurst held a 2-1 lead heading in to singles play. RU secured the win with victories at number one, four and six singles, ending the dual 5-1.
MSC will return to RMAC action this weekend in Silver City, N.M. The Mavericks will play Metro State Friday at 2 p.m. and host Western New Mexico Saturday at 9 a.m.
