Gabriella Parra went 4 for 4 from the plate, knocked in four runs and hit two homeruns leading the Mavericks to a split in a scheduled doubleheader at Bergman Field Saturday afternoon. MSC won game two 9-4 after falling to Nebraska-Kearney 3-1 in game one.
MSC pounded out 15 hits in the victory and had multiple hits from Parra (4), Lauren Cross(3) and two each from Danielle Vallie and Shannon McClenahan.
UNK scored two runs to start the game but the Mavs answered back in the bottom of the first scoring four runs on five hits including a 3-run homerun by Sara Jordan.
MSC extended the lead to 7-2 after two innings with the help of a two-run blast from Parra. Megan Smith's double to left center knocked in Cross who singled to right field.
In the fourth Cross' triple scored Parra (singled to LF) for an 8-2 lead. MSC gave up a run in the fifth and sixth inning to the Lopers to cut the deficit to 8-4. Parra led off the sixth with her second homerun of the game and third on the day.
Sam Farris picked up win number three going 5.1 innings allowing four runs on 11 hits. Sara Jordan earned her second save on the year shutting out the Lopers in the final 1.2 innings.
In game one UNK scored three innings in the third and held MSC scoreless until the fifth inning. MSC's lone run was off a Parra homerun over the leftfield wall. Parra and Windi Serrano had four of the Mavs five hits. MSC left 10 runners on base and the Lopers stranded nine base runners.
Jordan went the distance and took the loss falling to 6-2 overall. Jordan walked two batters and struck out four.
MSC and UNK will play a doubleheader Sunday at Bergman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
