Box Score Mesa State (13-7, 10-6) defeated Neb.-Kearney (11-9, 10-6) 73-70 Friday night in RMAC action.
MSC trailed 42-28 at intermission and used a 19-4 run to open the second half and take a 47-46 lead at the 13:18 mark. UNK jumped back up seven (56-49) at the ten-minute mark before the Mavs put together an 11-4 run to tie the game at 60-60 with 6:31 remaining in regulation. MSC grabbed their largest lead of the game (six points) with a 9-3 spurt for a 69-63 lead with 2:19 left. UNK tied it at 69-69 and took the lead on a free throw for a 70-69 advantage. Kelsey Sigl's layup with 16 seconds remaining gave the Mavs a 71-70 lead. Sigl missed the free throw following a foul but Alaina Brennan pulled down the offensive rebound. Brennan was fouled and made 1 of 2 from the foul line (72-70). UNK's 3-point attempt failed and Brennan grabbed the defensive board and was fouled. She sealed the victory hitting 1 of 2 free throws for the 73-70 win.
Sigl scored a game high 23 points, 15 in the second half, and finished with five rebounds.
Sharaya Selsor recorded 15 points, including 3 of 4 from the 3-point line. Selsor had three steals and three assists. Amy Weitzeil had 10 points and six boards.
Katrina Selsor pulled down a team high seven rebounds and finished with six points and four assists.
MSC shot 52 percent (26-50) from the field and 55 percent (5-9) from beyond the arc.
UNK was led by Vanessa Leeper's 22 points and 11 rebounds. Megan Becker finished with 12 points and 10 boards.
MSC moves in to a tie for fourth place with UNK in the RMAC standings. The two teams split their home and away series, each team winning on its home court. The Mavs are ranked tenth in the Central Region rankings released Wednesday and the Lopers hold down the ninth spot in the poll.
MSC will host Chadron State Saturday at 5 p.m.
