RMAC Shootout Bracket
Mesa State (17-9, 14-8) upended No 3 ranked Fort Lewis College 57-51 in its final regular season game at Brownson Arena Saturday night. MSC clinched the number five seed in the RMAC Shootout Tournament which begins Tuesday night at area campuses. MSC will play at #4 seed, Adams State College.
MSC had four players in double digits led by Sharaya Selsor's 14 points. Kelsey Sigl finished with 11 and Katrina Selsor and Tara Gehring added 10 each. Amy Weitzeil tallied a game-high 10 rebounds and added eight points. Freshman Hanna Bowden registered seven boards.
Fort Lewis had three early leads in the first three minutes of the game and at 16:25 of the first half Katrina Selsor's trey gave the Mavs a 7-5 lead. MSC would never trail again in the game as the Mavs held the Skyhawks to just 15 first-half points.
MSC extended the lead to 11 points at the start of the second half and the Skyhawks cut the deficit to six on a trey by Ashley Kuchar at 18:10. Fort Lewis stayed close the entire second half; trailing by single digits and pulled to within one point on several occasions. The last one-point deficit was at 7:28 remaining in the game when MSC answered the call with a jumper by Sigl.
MSC shot 44 percent (19-43) from the floor and hit 6 of 15 treys. The Mavs finished 13 of 16 from the foul line.
FLC shot 33.9 percent (19-56) and hit just 2 of 22 from beyond the arc. The Skyhawks struggled from the foul line connecting on 9 of 19.
MSC will play Tuesday night in round one of the RMAC Shootout at Adams State College. The winner of the game will advance to the semi-final round in Pueblo.
