Mavs drop inaugural game 18-3

Mesa State women's lacrosse opened the 2011 season and the first women's lacrosse game in Mesa State history, at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO Thursday night. The Mavericks fell 18-3 to the Lady Lions who improve to 3-1 on the year.

Lindenwood jumped out to a 2-0 lead when the Mavs' Allie Henderson made MSC history; scoring the first goal with 25:04 remaining in the half to pull to within a goal. The Lady Lions answered back with two goals and a 4-1 advantage. Henderson scored her second goal of the game and the Mavs trailed 2-4. Lindenwood scored three un-answered goals before half for a 7-2 lead.

In the second half LU scored five consecutive goals for a 12-1 lead. MSC snapped the streak with a goal by MSC's Amanda Simon with 12:36 left in regulation. The Lady Lions closed out the game with six goals and an 18-3 victory. 

Lauren Wells registered 21 saves for the Mavs.

MSC will play Fontbonne University in St. Charles today at 3 p.m.
