The Colorado Mesa University wrestling team used two bonus point matches in taking down the Western State Moutaineers 21-15. The win was the first for the Mavericks over the Mountaineers since the program was reinstated in 2006. The Mavericks and Mountaineers split the matches with each winning 5 matches but the Mavericks picked up a pin at 141 pounds and a forfeit at 149 pounds.
The Mountaineers won the first two weight classes then the Mavericks won the next 5 matches.
James Martinez won his match at 141 pounds by pin in 44 seconds to knot the team score at 6-6 followed by a forfeit win at 149 pounds.

Zak Slotten all won by decision to push the Maverick lead to 21-6.
Western State took the final three weights, all by decision.
Colorado Mesa will host the first ever Colorado Mesa Open on Saturday December 10th. Matches begin at 9:00am.
