Mavericks fall at No. 3 Metro State 60-49

CMU (7-4, 5-2) women's basketball team fell to No. 3-ranked Metro State College (10-0, 6-0) 60-49 Friday night in Denver. The contest was the first game back for both teams following the Christmas break.

CMU led by as many as five points in the first half on a trey by Kelsey Sigl with 11:04 in the first half for a 16-11 lead. The Roadrunners went on a 14-0 run; holding the Mavericks scoreless for over seven minutes to take a 25-16 lead. CMU answered back with a 6-0 run to pull to within three points with 1:50 remaining in the first half. Metro closed out the half scoring the final five points and a 32-22 halftime lead.

 Metro opened the second half with a bucket by Kristin Valencia before the Mavericks scored seven unanswered points to close the gap to five points (29-34). Katrina Selsor's jumper at 14:47 pulled the Mavs to within two points (34-36) before the Roadrunners took advantage of back-to-back turnovers, pushing the lead back to six (40-24). The Roadrunners never trailed in the second half holding a single digit lead until late in the game when the Roadrunners hit free throws to stretch the lead to double digits.

 Kelsey Sigl led CMU with 13 points and four rebounds before fouling out. Katrina Selsor had 12 points and six rebounds. Tara Gehring led the team with seven rebounds.

 Metro was led by Caley Dow and Jenessa Burke each finishing with 13 points. Dow posted a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds.

 CMU shot 37 percent (15-40) from the floor and 54 percent (13-24) from the foul line. The Mavs were 6 of 15 from the 3-point line.
Metro State out-rebounded CMU 46-27.

 CMU will play at Regis University on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
