Mavericks Trounce #13 Metro State

Box Score         The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team did something Friday afternoon that they hadn't done since 2001, beat the Metro State Roadrunners. The Mavericks defeated the 13th ranked Metro State Roadrunners 3-0 and snapped a 14 game losing streak against Metro State. The Mavericks improved their record to 6-4-2 and 5-1-2 in the RMAC while Metro State's record drops to 9-2-0 and 5-2-0 in RMAC matches. With the win, Colorado Mesa sits in second place all by themselves in the RMAC standings.
        The two teams played to a scoreless first half with the Roadrunners playing a more dominant half than the Mavericks. Metro State outshot the Mavericks 7-1 and 5-1 in shots on goal. The story was different in the second half.
        At the 53:22 mark of the match, Freshman Daniela Salinas scored her 3rd goal of the season to give CMU a 1-0 lead in the match. Salinas chipped a floater over the goalie for the score. Kaitlynn Holt crossed the ball to Salinas and was credited with the assist. Salinas' goal would be all the Mavericks would need but they weren't done yet.
        Freshman Darion Wiegert scored her first collegiate goal came in the 76th minute of the match to push the CMU lead to 2-0, Wiegert took a pass from Tayler Franklin and punched the ball on a cross over the goalkeeper's head to give the Mavericks an insurance goal that they were looking for. 
        In the 85th minute of the match, Senior Kelly Parkhurst got in on the action Parkhurst scored her 1st goal of the season, an unassisted goal that she scored on a deflection off the Roadrunner goalie in front of the net. The score would end at 3-0
        Freshman Sarah Schnetzler recorded her second consecutive shutout in goal and hasnt allowed a goal in over 271 minutes. Schnetzler made 7 saves in the match.
        Colorado Mesa will be on the road this Sunday against 25th ranked Colorado Mines in Golden.
