Mavs fall at UC-Colorado Springs, 69-58

Mesa State (9-5, 6-4) fell to UC-Colorado Springs (6-7, 5-4) Saturday night as the Mountain Lions overcame a 13-point first-half deficit to beat MSC 69-58

 

MSC started the game hitting its first six shots from the field and quickly opened up a 24-11 lead with the help of a 24-9 run with just under seven minutes remaining in the half. UCSS turned the tables late in the half going on a 12-5 run to close out the half and tie the game at 29-29 at intermission.

 

In the second half the teams traded baskets with neither team holding more than a two point lead. With the game tied at 42-42 with 12:23 remaining in regulation the Mountain Lions went on a 14-4 run for a 56-46 lead with 7:17 left in the game. MSC turned the ball over five times during the UCCS run, resulting in 10 points for the Mountain Lions.

 

MSC closed the gap to seven points with 1:35 left on a 3-pointer by Sharaya Selsor. UCCS scored on their next four possessions and closed out the game going 4 for 4 from the foul line.

 

Sharaya Selsor led the Mavericks with 16 points and four assists. Katrina Selsor added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds. Hanna Bowden finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

 

MSC turned the ball over 22 times in the contest. MSC held a 32-29 rebound margin and shot 42.6 percent (20-47) from the field.

 

UCCS had five players in double digits and were led by Payden Ackerman's team high 13 points off the bench.

 

MSC will host Western State College Saturday night in Brownson Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
