Box Score Mesa State (12-7, 9-6) fell to 15th- ranked Metro State College (18-1, 14-1) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night.
The Roadrunners took control of the game after a tight first half with the lead changing hands on several occasions. MSC held a one point lead (14-13) on a layup by Amy Weitzeil at the halfway mark of the first half. Metro answered back with a 7-0 run and never trailed the remainder of the contest. The Roadrunners led 31-20 at intermission.
MSC trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half and came as close as 11 with 2:47 remaining in the game. Metro's Alyssa Benson led all scorers with a game high 24 points off the bench.
Kelsey Sigl and Weitzeil finished with 14 and 13 points respectively. Katrina Selsor pulled down a game high nine rebounds and added nine points.
MSC shot 39 percent (17-43) from the field and 66 percent (16-25) from the foul line. The Roadrunners shot 44 percent (21-48) from the floor and 85 percent (18-21) from the free throw line. MSC hit 3 of 8 treys and Metro was 6 of 12 from beyond the arc.
Mesa State returns home this weekend to host University Neb.-Kearney and Chadron State. Friday's “Cancer Awareness” game versus UNK will tip-off at 6 p.m. Saturday's game is slated for 5 p.m.
