Mavs hand Rangers 68-62 loss

Mesa State (8-4, 5-3) held off a second half rally by the visiting Regis Rangers in a 68-62 victory at Brownson Arena.

 

MSC held a 33-19 lead at the half taking advantage of the poor shooting from the Rangers in the first 20 minutes of the game. Regis hit just 5 of 23 from the field (21.7%).

 

Regis made two runs in the second half to cut the deficit to single digits. RU opened the second half with a 13-7 run to cut the MSC lead to eight points (42-34). MSC extended the lead back to 12 points (50-38) with the help of two treys from Katrina Selsor. Regis cut the Maverick lead again to single digits, coming to within five points before MSC finished off the Rangers hitting 13 free throws in the final 3:41 of regulation.

 

Katrina Selsor and Kelsey Sigl proved too much for the Rangers each finishing with 18 points and combined for 16 rebounds. Selsor was 6 for 6 from the line and Sigl hit 9 of 10 from the foul line. Selsor's 12 points from the field were all from beyond the arc (4-5).

 

Regis was led by Lauren Luebbe's 15 points.

 

MSC will travel to CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs next Friday and Saturday.
